People of Revelation

The book of Revelation records a series of visions received by John the Apostle while he was on the island of Patmos (Revelation 1:1–9). The narrative begins with a revelation of Jesus, who appears as a figure with hair like white wool and eyes like a flame of fire, holding seven stars in his right hand (Revelation 1:12–16). Through this vision, messages are sent to seven churches, mentioning Antipas, who was killed as a faithful martyr in Pergamum (Revelation 2:13). The text also references historical figures to illustrate spiritual failures, such as Jezebel, who is accused of leading people into sexual immorality (Revelation 2:20), and Balak, who is cited for hiring Balaam to entice the Israelites to eat food sacrificed to idols (Revelation 2:14).

As the vision shifts to the heavenly throne room, John the Apostle sees The Twenty-Four Elders, who sit on thrones wearing golden crowns and cast them down before the seated deity (Revelation 4:4–10). The text identifies Jesus as the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Root of David, who alone is worthy to open the seven seals of a heavenly scroll (Revelation 5:5). During the unfolding of these judgments, a specific group called The 144 is sealed for protection, consisting of 12,000 members from each tribe of Israel (Revelation 7:4). This census includes Reuben, the firstborn of the patriarchs, along with Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, and Simeon (Revelation 7:5–7). The list continues with Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin (Revelation 8:7–8).

The narrative arc continues with the appearance of The Two Witnesses, who prophesy for 1,260 days and possess the power to shut the sky like Moses (Revelation 11:3–6). A cosmic conflict then emerges involving The Woman Clothed with the Sun, who gives birth to a male child destined to rule the nations (Revelation 12:1–5). She is defended during a war in heaven by Michael, who leads his angels to defeat a great dragon (Revelation 12:7–9). The book concludes with the descent of the New Jerusalem, a city where the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel are inscribed on the gates (Revelation 21:12). The text ends with a final testimony from Jesus, who affirms his identity as the bright morning star (Revelation 22:16).
