Baaseiah was a Levite of the Gershonite branch. According to the genealogical record preserved in 1 Chronicles 6, he was the son of Malchijah. The text further identifies him as the father of Michael. This specific lineage identifies him as an ancestor of Asaph the seer, who was one of the primary leaders of choral worship established during the reign of King David.

As a Gershonite, Baaseiah belonged to the clan originally tasked with the transportation and maintenance of the Tabernacle coverings and hangings. By the time of the Divided Monarchy, these ancestral roles had transitioned into specialized temple duties, including music and gatekeeping.
