Kore was the son of Ebiasaph and a direct descendant of Korah. According to the genealogical records in 1 Chronicles 9:19, he was part of the Kohathite branch of the Levites. The text identifies him as the brother of Assir, and he is positioned within the generational sequence that follows the settlement and organizational structures of the Levite clans. His lineage is distinguished by its specific assignment to the threshold of the Tent of Meeting.

Because Kore appears primarily in genealogical lists, there are no specific narrative events—such as speeches or journeys—attributed to him individually. However, his life is defined by the era of the Wilderness wanderings and the transition into the established liturgical life of Israel.

His primary contribution to the history of Israel was the establishment of a specialized line of gatekeepers. 1 Chronicles 26:1 records that his son, Meshelemiah (also referred to as Shelemiah), held a leadership position among the divisions of the gatekeepers. Shallum is noted for being among those who returned to the "threshold of the Tent" to resume the duties their fathers had held since the time of the Wilderness. The scriptures take care to note that "his relatives from the Korahites" worked alongside his son Shallum, indicating a tight-knit familial guild focused on the protection of the sanctuary.

Despite the historical complexities associated with the Korahite name, Kore’s branch remained faithful to the liturgical requirements of the Law. The office of the gatekeeper, which he passed to his sons Shallum and Meshelemiah, was considered a "trust" (1 Chronicles 9:22). It required men of integrity to ensure that nothing ritually unclean entered the presence of God.
