Background and Family

Temeni appears in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles 4, a section specifically dedicated to the lineage of the tribe of Judah. According to the biblical record, Temeni was the son of Ashhur and his second wife, Naarah. Ashhur is identified as the "father" (or founder/progenitor) of Tekoa, a town in the hill country of Judah. The text in 1 Chronicles 4:6 lists Temeni alongside his full brothers: Ahuzzam, Hepher, and Haahashtari.

Through his father, Temeni was also related to half-siblings born to Ashhur’s other wife, Helah, which included Zereth, Izhar (or Zohar), and Ethnan. The household of Ashhur represents a significant branch of the Calebite or Judahite line that contributed to the settlement of the region south of Bethlehem.

The biblical text provides no narrative accounts regarding the life, career, or death of Temeni. Unlike the major figures of the Divided Monarchy, Temeni is not depicted participating in the political or military upheavals of the era.
