Merchants

Who is on this listThe BSB calls the person a merchant or trader, or shows the person trading.

The traders the Bible names or shows at trade.

Two entries in Scripture are defined by trade. The Midianite traders were passing when Joseph’s brothers pulled him from the pit and sold him for twenty shekels of silver (Genesis 37:28). They are a group rather than a single person, and they carried Joseph into Egypt.

At Philippi, Paul met "a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God" (Acts 16:14). The Lord opened her heart. Lydia and her household were baptized, and she opened her home to Paul and his companions.

The text mentions other merchants, such as the traders of Tyre and those who mourn Babylon in Revelation, but it does not name them, so they are not listed.
