Eliphelet is identified in 2 Samuel 23:34 as the son of Ahasbai. The text further qualifies his identity by labeling his father as 'the Maacathite.' This designation typically refers to the inhabitants of Maacah, a region mentioned in Joshua 13:11 and 2 Samuel 10:6. Because Maacah was often associated with Geshur and was located on the border of the territory assigned to the tribe of Manasseh, Eliphelet’s family may have been of Geshurite or Maacathite descent, or perhaps Israelites who had settled in that specific frontier region. The presence of such a figure in David’s inner circle reflects the king’s ability to draw loyalty from various geographical districts across the Levant.

The sole recorded event of Eliphelet’s life is his appointment to the elite corps of King David’s military, known as the Gibborim or 'The Mighty Men.'
