Uzzi was born into the tribe of Issachar, one of the twelve sons of Jacob. He was the son of Tola, who was himself the son of Issachar (Genesis 46:13; 1 Chronicles 7:1). According to the record in 1 Chronicles 7:2, Uzzi was the eldest of six brothers, which included Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Shemuel. These six men are described collectively as 'heads of their families,' indicating that the household of Tola was subdivided into these distinct ancestral branches.
