Breakfast by the Sea of Galilee

Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, occurring after his resurrection in the first century AD. Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were present. Simon Peter announced he was going fishing, and the others accompanied him. They entered a boat and caught nothing that night. When morning arrived, Jesus stood on the shore, though the disciples did not know it was him (John 21:4). He asked if they had any meat, and they answered no. He instructed them to cast the net on the right side of the ship to find fish.

After casting the net, they were unable to draw it in due to the multitude of fish. The disciple whom Jesus loved told Peter, "It is the Lord," prompting Peter to girt his fisher's coat and cast himself into the sea (John 21:7). The other disciples followed in a small ship, dragging the net with fish, as they were about two hundred cubits from land. Upon landing, they saw a fire of coals with fish laid thereon and bread. Jesus told them to bring the fish they had caught. Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, which contained one hundred and fifty-three great fishes. Despite the quantity, the net was not broken (John 21:11).

Jesus invited the disciples to come and dine. None of the disciples asked who he was, knowing it was the Lord. Jesus took bread and gave it to them, and fish likewise. This was the third time Jesus showed himself to his disciples after he was risen from the dead. After they had dined, Jesus questioned Simon Peter three times regarding his love for him. Following each response, Jesus gave instructions to feed his lambs, feed his sheep, and follow him. The text does not say how the other disciples reacted to this specific conversation, but it records that Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them (John 21:20).
