The Healing at the Beautiful Gate

Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour (Acts 3:1). At the gate of the temple called Beautiful, a certain man who had been lame from his mother's womb was carried and laid daily to ask alms of those entering the temple (Acts 3:2). Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, the man asked for alms. Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, commanded the man to look at them. The man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them (Acts 3:4-5).

Peter stated that he possessed neither silver nor gold, but offered what he did have. He commanded the man, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, to rise up and walk (Acts 3:6). Peter took the man by the right hand and lifted him up. Immediately, the man's feet and ankle bones received strength (Acts 3:7). He leaped up, stood, and walked, entering the temple with the apostles while walking, leaping, and praising God. The people present saw him walking and recognized him as the man who sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate (Acts 3:8-10).

As the healed man held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering (Acts 3:11). Peter addressed the people, asking why they marveled or looked so earnestly at them as though by their own power or holiness they had made the man walk (Acts 3:12). He attributed the healing to the name of Jesus, whom God had glorified (Acts 3:13). Peter explained that faith in the name of Jesus had given the man this perfect soundness in the presence of them all (Acts 3:16).
